The summer breeze, carrying the salty scent of the sea, always brings back memories of my wonderful trip to Weihai. This vacation, I traveled to this beautiful coastal city on the Yellow Sea with my family, and every moment there was filled with sunshine, waves, and laughter. Weihai’s beauty is a perfect mix of freshness and grandeur. As our car entered the city, stretches of green trees came into view. The clean streets were lined with red-tiled, white-walled buildings, which complemented the blue sea and sky in the distance like a moving watercolor painting. What truly took my breath away, though, was the vast sea. Standing at the pier of Liugong Island, I watched the seawater change from clear near the shore to deep blue farther out, merging gently with the horizon. Occasionally, seagulls spread their wings and glided over the water, leaving a string of crisp cries. Even the air smelled of freedom. Weihai’s flavors are the sea’s direct gifts. The seafood market was bustling in the evening. Fresh scallops lay with their shells open, mantis shrimp hopped in nets, and mackerels glistened silver. My mom picked some lively oysters and swimming crabs, then took them to a nearby restaurant to be steamed simply. When the steaming plates were served, the rich, fresh aroma made my mouth water instantly. The oysters were plump—dipped in a little ginger vinegar, they tasted purely sweet. The swimming crabs had bright orange roe and tender, bouncy meat, leaving the taste of the sea on my fingertips. It was a freshness I’d never found in city markets, a taste unique to Weihai. Days by the sea were never boring without getting close to the waves. In the afternoon, Golden Beach Bath was crowded with people. I put on my swimsuit, took a deep breath, and ran toward the sea. As soon as my feet touched the water, a chill ran from my toes to my head—it was colder than I’d expected, making me shiver a little. But when the waves gently lapped at my knees, carrying tiny sand grains over my skin, the coolness felt incredibly pleasant. I walked a little deeper, stretching my arms as the waves rolled in. Salty water sometimes splashed on my face, but I didn’t mind at all. Looking up at the hot sun and hearing the laughter from the shore, even the cold seawater felt like the most comfortable gift of summer. The most thrilling part was the jet ski ride. After putting on a life jacket, I sat on the jet ski. As the instructor stepped on the throttle, it shot forward like an arrow released from a bow. The wind howled in my ears, and the waves were split into a white trail. My body swayed slightly with the boat’s bumps, while the sea and beach blurred past me. I held onto the handle tightly, nervous yet excited, and couldn’t help shouting out loud. At that moment, all my worries were carried away by the sea breeze, leaving only the joy of racing with the sea. Now, when I think of Weihai, that unforgettable blue still fills my mind. The delicious seafood, cool seawater, exciting jet ski ride, and the laughter shared with my family—all these have become the warmest parts of this summer. This trip to Weihai not only showed me the grandeur of the sea but also gave me tons of happiness and memories. It will surely be one of the most precious pages in my youth.
